This is the type of instrument used in Arnhemland. The sound has a somewhat raw edge, especially if you play everything with flat cheeks (as it should be ;-)).

By playing with flat cheeks, you essentially filter out the bass and hear more mids and highs. This makes the sound even clearer for the dancers.

It is painted with designs referencing waŋupini, the Yirritja cloud, and a metaphor relating to the cyclical nature of life.
